Meeting MIKE KARNES At Rhythm Fire School Of Music

Seve Bartlett relaxing in Olympia
Today, Sunday, November 18th... BARTLETT's meeting his buddy MIKE KARNES/guitar in Olympia at THE RHYTHM FIRE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, for a rehearsal. What fun these old friends have getting together every week or so. My Steve's enjoying his rehearsing this morning and excited 'bout getting over there to see Mike. AND, I'm so lucky to get to listen to all that great rehearsing too.
Other recent news is that BARTLETT's singer/song writer brother RUSSELL BARTLETT/guitar/vocals called him last night. He's been very busy moving back up to Washington State to be closer to family. from Texas. BARTLETT ON BASS or my Steve will call his brother tonight. Hopefully they will be doing some major music projects together...cool. Perhaps creating a CD, or going even on a fun music tour for a few days. We'll know more tonight....Yea! I'll tell as soon as I can...O.K? Maybe, getting together with Country Americana recording artist MICHAEL O'NEILL/guitar/vocals for some great music.
AND, even though it's Thanksgiving week, music never takes a vacation for my hubby...he just loves it. So, this upcoming Tuesday evening. November 20th...he's looking forward to seeing most of those WALTER's BIRTHDAY friends of his..that's TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals and SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums , for some jamming out at Tod's DREAM ACRES in McKenna.
He saw JEFF MORGAN, the bass Jedi last week in Tacoma. Steve really admires Jeff's playing. And, is honored to be with him each week.
Oh yea...Steve went to UNCLE SAM''s BAR AND GRILL last Thursday evening in Spanaway. That's JERRY MILLER BAND night at Uncle Sam's. ...Go see Jerry Miller at UNCLE SAM's on Thursdays, 16003 Pacific in Spanaway...O.K? Also, DAVE BRAY/guitar/vocals was birthday celebrating at Uncle Sam's last Thursday. Steve enjoyed seeing him and Steve got to jam with Jerry Miller and Dave Bray...what fun.
Thanks for reading my local music news, featuring my awesome guy BARTLETT ON BASS. Bye, Jan

This Week's Local Music News

BARTLETT ON BASS
BARTLETT's been on the run this week...He's having so much fun with music too. Let's see ....First he's happy to be at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma again this next Friday night...that's Oct. 26th.[NOTE: 10/25th... JERRY MILLER @ THE STONEGATE.... GIG has been posponed, please see BARTLETT with MICHAEL O'NEILL on Saturday, Oct. 27th, see below...Jan]  from 9 pm to 1 am. with that awesome legendary guitarist JERRY MILLER/guitar/vocals, from the '60's band MOBY GRAPE. KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums and, of course, with my BARTLETT ON BASS it's great trio on Friday night. There's dancing, cold drinks and pizza at THE STONEGATE...5421 South Tacoma Way, phone 253/473-2255.
NEXT, On Saturday, Oct. 27th, Steve BARTLETT ON BASS will be backing up the country great MICHAEL O'NEILL at THE HARMON BREWERY's TAP ROOM in Tacoma[...204 St Helens Ave
Tacoma, WA 98402] ]. I'm not sure of the time yet, but will post it when it's official. O.K? There will be other fine musicians there as well as MICHAEL O'NEIL/guitar/vocals and KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums with,of course BARTLETT ON BASS. Below this post, I'll post a listen from MICHAEL O'NEILL's CD. Enjoy.
NOTES from the past week....Last Saturday, Oct. 20th, that singer/song writer from WALTER's BIRTHDAY, recording artist TOD LEMKUHL had a music bash at his home near McKenna at DREAM ACRES. Know it was wonderful, Steve was so disappointed he missed this get-together. but, our car was out of order and had to be fixed on Saturday, and BARTLETT didn't get home last Friday night from THE STONEGATE gig until 3 am...WOW. He was just too bushed.
Last but not least, there was Steve's weekly get-together at MUSIC 6000 in Olympia, with old friend, MIKE KARNES, who teaches guitar/bass in the Silverdale area. They had a great time reported Steve... always adding tunes to their growing set lists...this will be a awesome group when they're ready to perform in the area.
My Steve ran into drummer, STEPHEN HICKS, owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS this week. Hicks said 'MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals, former owner of LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERs in McKenna, will be back in this area in a couple of weeks, comeing up from San Diego, California'...I'll keep everyone posted as new information surfaces. Perhaps, there will be some music at STEPHEN HICK's studio HOBBY STREET when Salinas is here...Hope so.
Also, I got an Email from drummer KENNY WILLIAMSON this past week, all seems to be going well with him. Thanks for reading my music news. T. Jan

The Latest...BARTLETT On The Go

Cool Steve Bartlett
O.K.....Lot's going on here. Let's look at music first. This gig will be ongoing for Friday nights in the weeks to come...let's just see this going on forever..OK?, Steve's playing at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma each Friday night with that awesome music legendJERRY MILLER..what an honor this is.
JERRY MILLER, guitarist from MOBY GRAPE, back in the 1960's. There's lots of stuff online 'bout him, so, take a look...O.K?
Anyway, Steve and Jerry been hitting it off. AND, tomorrow, Steve's getting together with Jerry and going over some tunes for this Friday night's gig... Friday, Sept. 28, 2012  and it will be fantastic.  Address for THE STONEGATE is 5421 South Tacoma Way. That's easy to find. Take the Tacoma Mall Exit off I-5...I think that's 54th and go west to South Tacoma Way. The phone is 253/743-2255. Music starts at 9 pm., ends 1 am. The pizza is great, beer's ice cold and they serve mixed drinks too. It'll be fun. JERRY MILLER/guitar/vocals, Steve BARTLETT ON BASS, and KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums.
Steve's also been rehearsing with his music buddy, music instructor MIKE KARNES. They get together each Sunday and just have fun, relax and play...Steve loves it. Both of them have been just playing forever...just 'bout 50 years music experience each. They really admire each other's musical genius, and relax. It's so much fun for them both. They get together each week in Olympia.
My hubby ran into G.W. TAYLOR/vocals yesterday. I love his voice and will look on YOUTUBE for a video. G. W. is a find actor, and has been in many performances put on by talented NANCY TRIBUSH HILLMAN, at THE NEW TRIAD THEATER in Yelm, over the years. He has a wonderful CD out too. I'll check it out and find out where you can find it and post it here OK?
Steve talked to singer/song writer TOD LEMKUHL/guitarist/vocals over this past week about getting together for some music. Hopefully, that will be happening soon.
Bye for now. Jan

OK...I'm Ready...What's Going On Now?

STEVE BARTLETT
Steve's been really busy cleaning up our little farm after that COLD ice-snow storm that hit this area last week. Yelm got their lights turned on just yesterday. Several of our neighbors are still nowhere to be seen.....we bet at relatives with lights, lotsa food, water and heat...Their cars are not around....it's so strange...very, very eerie...And quiet.
I'm sure we're gonna stock up more candles, have a small camp stove on hand with fuel, more easy to prepare foods, and lotsa drinking water and ALL the first aid stuff we can get ahold of. We learned alot.
My Steve did not make it to a jam arranged for last Friday night at our neighbor Stephen K Hicks /drums's, HOBBY STREET STUDIO  just down the street...we had three trees blocking our driveway AND hard ICE-ROCKS falling from heaven....well, I guess, more like shooting down from heaven on us...SCARY.
He will be going to STEPHEN HICKS/drums this Thursday evening instead. JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals called today and my Steve will see him there too. It'll be lotsa fun. A friend of  Steve Hicks, named XXXX-XXXX/guitar [X'd out per request T. Jan], from Olympia, is planning to be there. That's how musicians relax....they just love to get together and play. Everyone around here have been so busy with fixing stuff after that terrible storm....so, they look forward to relaxing together and playing...AND, I always support that. It always makes me so happy to see Steve smile...that GREAT BIG REAL SMILE, when he's playing music with his buddies.
I'm sure some cool gigs will be coming down the pike soon and I'll let you ALL know right away. OK?  T.Jan

'Baby, It's Cold Outside'... What UPCOMING EVENTS?...Hopefully Spring? Pretty Please, With Suger On Top

Photo  by doortoriver cc
OK...It's January 19th, 2012...AND, 'Baby, It's COLD outside'...Well, more SNOWY than cold, I guess [T. Jan],,'bout 35 degrees, AND, the snow is melting...we had 'bout a foot yesterday...unheard of in this Olympia-Tacoma area. It's a real mess out there...as folks here are not use to driving....living in the snow. I've never seen over about 2-3 inches any winter before and maybe snow only once a year before now. I've lived here since 1990 and visited this area often since 1985.
The worst part for us [Steve and T. Jan]...are the falling trees...we live on 9 acres, and are surrounded by beautiful trees, BUT this snow's SO HEAVY and this is so new for these trees, that we've seen several big trees snap and fall over night. Our road off our property is blocked by two big trees, there's a tree  down across our garden fence... breaking it and just missing some fruit trees and our truck, a scary tree bending over another camper and truck, near our house, but, looks like no damage Steve says...Yea!
We are so lucky...have plenty of food, water, etc. and wood for our stove...we're warm and fine. But, in Yelm...I know my Doctor's not able to get to her office and doing business over the phone. I have not heard 'bout other business's in town yet. The phone and computer are both working, Steve is happy to be able to stay at home right now. We've heard from recording artist JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals, he's OK and at home. We've heard from neighbor STEVE HICKS/drums and owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS in Yelm...he's fine too. Both, JON BARONI and STEVE HICKS want to jam tomorrow night with my Steve, at STEVE HICK'S STUDIO...cool, my Steve can get there walking and Jon's close too. Jon heard from SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, he's OK. BUT,For now there's no gigs lined up and that looks like a good thing to me. [T. Jan]
And, MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals told me [T. Jan] eleven days ago...that Sunday a week ago, that he'd return to Yelm in 10 days. He was driving back down to San Diego, California with a load from his home uphere I have NOT heard a word from him though...so, don't know where he's at....just heard another tree snap right now...again near the house!
Oh!.... Steve's checking in ...he heard it too...BUT, we don't see anything. 'Spose to warm up by tomorrow...Friday, 1/20/12. Right On! We're sure ready for that!!
NOTE: 12:45pm...A tree just hit the house!...we're OK.
-----------------------
I've posted a strange true story that I sent to Bettye Johnson last year with lots of snow in it...'bout when I lived in Spokane. T. Jan
Sent to Bettye Johnson on 1/10/11

--------------------
Bettye...Here's a strange story happened to me...Janet Rose-Bartlett
-------------------------
This happened before 1990, I'd say in 1987 or 88. Before I moved to Yelm [1990]. I was a nurse in Spokane. On a private-duty pediatric home care job. That night, I had the evening shift...3 to 11:30 pm. It was winter and cold outside...around zero, I guess. With lots of fresh snow on the ground.
The family [parents of the child] I cared for had left for the evening., when the night nurse took over the care of 'our' child, the parents had not returned. The child had to have constant watching. So, when I went to my car, I knew the night nurse could not help me.
My car was buried in the snow, AND a plow had 'cleared' the streets of snow...blocking my car in a large snow bank. It was freezing and the snow was getting hard and icy.
First, I got the snow off the top my car..then, tried to chip away at the icy hill around the car....no go. It was dark, around midnight by now...I was all alone.
I had recently returned from Yelm...where I'd been at an event....looked hopefully at the house with the nurse inside....wishing the parents would come home...OR...something.
Got into the car, sat at the driver's seat, shut my eyes and focused/blew/hoped etc. for a few minutes. Suddenly, I heard something outside...a voice? I opened my eyes and took a look.
A thin young man [20ish] was behind my car. He yelled 'did I have a shovel?' I did have a large window scrapper, would that do? He took it and started to 'shovel' at the snow bank...and just kept talking...fast, very fast....'he was going to his girlfriend's house a few blocks away...glad he saw me, it was so dark...how was I ever going to get out of here all alone, anyway?'...on and on and on.
He had cleared some of the 'snow hill' and thought he could push me out into the street. I started my car, while he pushed...and, my car was free....yay!..
Then, he came up to the window and asked if I could please drive him to his girlfriend's house...'It's only a few blocks away.'
Well, how could I say 'no'...after all he had done. SO, I opened the passenger-side door. He slipped into the seat....'Ready', he said strangely...
That's when I really looked at him....'What the ?' He had no coat, only a 'summer' cotton button-down shirt and light jeans....no gloves, no hat...but, what was so strange to me...NO socks!....just a pair of cold-looking leather shoes. He looked/seemed safe to me...just very odd.
He pointed straight ahead...that's where the girlfriend lived....'you can almost see it from here;, he said.
About 5 blocks ahead was FRED MEYERS Shopping Center...he pointed there. The parking lot was all lit .[spell] up, lights reflecting on the snow...seemed almost like day.
This was just fine he said...opening the door, getting out in the middle of the parking lot...
As he walked to the back of my car...I turned to thank him again....and I was all alone. Where did he go? I looked around...puzzled. 'Thank you' I said.
-------------------
Bettye..this really happened to me...never found out any more about this Good Samaritan . I wonder about it some times. So, strange....there was NO place the young man could have gone to....so quickly. Don't know any more...but, he sure helped me out that night. Janet
