This is the first part of February...2012. AND, Music is ALWAYS happening in our lives. This week's full of rehearsing with the guys down at our neighbor STEPHEN K. HICKS/drums, owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS here in Yelm. My Steve's having a lotta fun with his friends. JASON HOGLE/guitar, JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals and , of course, my Steve BARTLETT ON BASS, they were at the studio last night for some more music fun. They'll play again tomorrow night....Cool.
This coming Sunday...Steve will be getting together with his high school buddie and good friend, guitar instructor MIKE KARNES in Olympia. It's been awhile, since they could find time to enjoy each other's musical genius...but, it's sure worth the wait..AND, Steve's really looking forward to this coming up Sunday.
He has talked to SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals and has a call into TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals and waiting for a call back about any upcoming WALTERs BIRTHDAY gigs. I'll let everyone know about any news as soon as it is known. OK?
I read on FACEBOOK that MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals is still down in San Diego, California...we sure miss Martin. That's it for now. Trajen Jan

Well, This is just in.... a new private gig has been announced at THE OLYMPIA CITY CENTER, that's 222 COLUMBIA N.W. in Olympia for January 30th. Go HERE.

Steve's been really busy cleaning up our little farm after that COLD ice-snow storm that hit this area last week. Yelm got their lights turned on just yesterday. Several of our neighbors are still nowhere to be seen.....we bet at relatives with lights, lotsa food, water and heat...Their cars are not around....it's so strange...very, very eerie...And quiet.

I'm sure we're gonna stock up more candles, have a small camp stove on hand with fuel, more easy to prepare foods, and lotsa drinking water and ALL the first aid stuff we can get ahold of. We learned alot.

My Steve did not make it to a jam arranged for last Friday night at our neighbor Stephen K Hicks /drums's, HOBBY STREET STUDIO just down the street...we had three trees blocking our driveway AND hard ICE-ROCKS falling from heaven....well, I guess, more like shooting down from heaven on us...SCARY.

He will be going to STEPHEN HICKS/drums this Thursday evening instead. JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals called today and my Steve will see him there too. It'll be lotsa fun. A friend of Steve Hicks, named JASON HOGLE/guitar, from Olympia, is planning to be there. That's how musicians relax....they just love to get together and play. Everyone around here have been so busy with fixing stuff after that terrible storm....so, they look forward to relaxing together and playing...AND, I always support that. It always makes me so happy to see Steve smile...that GREAT BIG REAL SMILE, when he's playing music with his buddies.

I'm sure some cool gigs will be coming down the pike soon and I'll let you ALL know right away. OK? T.Jan

OK...It's January 19th, 2012...AND, 'Baby, It's COLD outside'...Well, more SNOWY than cold, I guess [T. Jan],,'bout 35 degrees, AND, the snow is melting...we had 'bout a foot yesterday...unheard of in this Olympia-Tacoma area. It's a real mess out there...as folks here are not use to driving....living in the snow. I've never seen over about 2-3 inches any winter before and maybe snow only once a year before now. I've lived here since 1990 and visited this area often since 1985.
The worst part for us [Steve and T. Jan]...are the falling trees...we live on 9 acres, and are surrounded by beautiful trees, BUT this snow's SO HEAVY and this is so new for these trees, that we've seen several big trees snap and fall over night. Our road off our property is blocked by two big trees, there's a tree down across our garden fence... breaking it and just missing some fruit trees and our truck, a scary tree bending over another camper and truck, near our house, but, looks like no damage Steve says...Yea!
We are so lucky...have plenty of food, water, etc. and wood for our stove...we're warm and fine. But, in Yelm...I know my Doctor's not able to get to her office and doing business over the phone. I have not heard 'bout other business's in town yet. The phone and computer are both working, Steve is happy to be able to stay at home right now. We've heard from recording artist JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals, he's OK and at home. We've heard from neighbor STEVE HICKS/drums and owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS in Yelm...he's fine too. Both, JON BARONI and STEVE HICKS want to jam tomorrow night with my Steve, at STEVE HICK'S STUDIO...cool, my Steve can get there walking and Jon's close too. Jon heard from SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, he's OK. BUT,For now there's no gigs lined up and that looks like a good thing to me. [T. Jan]
And, MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals told me [T. Jan] eleven days ago...that Sunday a week ago, that he'd return to Yelm in 10 days. He was driving back down to San Diego, California with a load from his home uphere I have NOT heard a word from him though...so, don't know where he's at....just heard another tree snap right now...again near the house!
Oh!.... Steve's checking in ...he heard it too...BUT, we don't see anything. 'Spose to warm up by tomorrow...Friday, 1/20/12. Right On! We're sure ready for that!!

This happened before 1990, I'd say in 1987 or 88. Before I moved to Yelm [1990]. I was a nurse in Spokane. On a private-duty pediatric home care job. That night, I had the evening shift...3 to 11:30 pm. It was winter and cold outside...around zero, I guess. With lots of fresh snow on the ground.
The family [parents of the child] I cared for had left for the evening., when the night nurse took over the care of 'our' child, the parents had not returned. The child had to have constant watching. So, when I went to my car, I knew the night nurse could not help me.
My car was buried in the snow, AND a plow had 'cleared' the streets of snow...blocking my car in a large snow bank. It was freezing and the snow was getting hard and icy.
First, I got the snow off the top my car..then, tried to chip away at the icy hill around the car....no go. It was dark, around midnight by now...I was all alone.
I had recently returned from Yelm...where I'd been at an event....looked hopefully at the house with the nurse inside....wishing the parents would come home...OR...something.
Got into the car, sat at the driver's seat, shut my eyes and focused/blew/hoped etc. for a few minutes. Suddenly, I heard something outside...a voice? I opened my eyes and took a look.
A thin young man [20ish] was behind my car. He yelled 'did I have a shovel?' I did have a large window scrapper, would that do? He took it and started to 'shovel' at the snow bank...and just kept talking...fast, very fast....'he was going to his girlfriend's house a few blocks away...glad he saw me, it was so dark...how was I ever going to get out of here all alone, anyway?'...on and on and on.
He had cleared some of the 'snow hill' and thought he could push me out into the street. I started my car, while he pushed...and, my car was free....yay!..
Then, he came up to the window and asked if I could please drive him to his girlfriend's house...'It's only a few blocks away.'
Well, how could I say 'no'...after all he had done. SO, I opened the passenger-side door. He slipped into the seat....'Ready', he said strangely...
That's when I really looked at him....'What the ?' He had no coat, only a 'summer' cotton button-down shirt and light jeans....no gloves, no hat...but, what was so strange to me...NO socks!....just a pair of cold-looking leather shoes. He looked/seemed safe to me...just very odd.
He pointed straight ahead...that's where the girlfriend lived....'you can almost see it from here;, he said.
About 5 blocks ahead was FRED MEYERS Shopping Center...he pointed there. The parking lot was all lit .[spell] up, lights reflecting on the snow...seemed almost like day.
This was just fine he said...opening the door,getting out in the middle of the parking lot...
As he walked to the back of my car...I turned to thank him again....and I was all alone. Where did he go? I looked around...puzzled. 'Thank you' I said.

Bettye..this really happened to me...never found out any more about this Good Samaritan . I wonder about it some times. So, strange....there was NO place the young man could have gone to....so quickly. Don't know any more...but, he sure helped me out that night. Janet

Last night Craig called...he needed a band on Saturday, January 7th...could WALTER's BIRTHDAY be in Spanaway at UNCLE SAM's American Bar and GRILL at 8:30 pm to play? Yep! Sure thing Craig.... Steve called all the guys. Yep, they were all available and ready...cool. SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drummer for WALTER's BIRTHDAY and talented owner of REAL TO REEL MEDIA, go HERE created some beautiful posters for Craig and UNCLE SAM's to post. Steve will deliver them, and everyone's all set. This will be lots of fun.

You all know the bluzzzz queen of the Pacific Northwest SHELLY ELY has a fantastic jam goin'on there every Sunday night at UNCLE SAM's with her great crew. It's really cool, and JERRY MILLER performs there every Thursday evening with his group too too, THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND with MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals, STEVE HICKS/drums, and my Steve BARTLETT ON BASS has played there many times too, and there's even more.... music every night of the week.... OK...Today's Thursday, November 17th ...and I haven't posted for awahile....what's up anyway?

Steve and I've been really busy getting the farm ready for winter etc....you understand what I mean....there's sheep to shear, filling our barn with hay, chicken and rabbit feed...and chopping and stacking wood for our wood stove, then there's harvesting our garden goodies and putting them up for winter too. yum..

Steve'll be rehearsing tonight with the band, WALTER's BIRTHDAY. That's JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals, with st_robert as sound engineer. Go HERE and HERE.
He's been jammin' with STEVE HICKS/drummer HERE, our neighbor and owner of HOBBY STREET STUDIOS in Yelm, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals of WALTER's BIRTHDAY, and, MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals of THE MARTIN SALINAS BAND and former owner of LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna.

TERESA OAKMAN/vocals and the awesome YASMINE ARIEL/vocals HERE are wonderful new for me voices that I've [T. Jan] really enjoyed.

This Saturday night Steve has been invited to Kevin's birthday bash by KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums at THE STONEGATE in Tacoma. With TIM HALL/guitar/vocals and JERRY MILLER/guitar/vocals invited too I bet there'll be lots of good music and Steve'll have a real awesome time. WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD

Wasn't last week end fun?...TWO very cool gigs....so much wonderful music... First, Friday's WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD Release Party at THE SPIRAL CAFE in Yelm went very well indeed with a packed crowd AND lots of CD's sold. A great sucess. That's TOD LEMKUHL/guitar/vocals, SCOTT ERCOLIANI/drums, JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals and of course...STEVE BARTLETT/bass, as WALTER's BIRTHDAY. An awesome background video by SCOTT ERCOLIANI, opened the show as JON BARONI sang his DAKOTA RODEO...written by JON BARONI the late TED HALL, Steve reported that it was all very touching. Wish I could get there...soon folks.
Then, THE SHELLY ELY JAM in Spanaway on Sunday at UNCLE SAM's AMERICAN BAR AND GRILL...lots of fun, STEVE BARTLETT/bass was filling in for TERRY JAE/bass.... well, first we all know Ms. Bluzzz, vocalist SHELLY ELY's always a blast...and amazing JHO BLENIS was on guitar...WOW, What a great night of music.
But,...the big surprise of the night was.....MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals came into jam with these great musicans. This was the first sighting of SALINAS since the closing of his LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTER's in McKenna on August 12th. He told Steve,,,he'll be in the area for about the next six months, then plans to return to his old home town of San Diago, CA. We'll miss you Martin.

So, what's next?....On September 9th, a private gig THE BOW-WOW BASH in Olympia is set up with BARTLETT/bass playing again with that fine band, WALTER's BIRTHDAY. JON BARONI will be arranging all the details.
On Sept 23rd, the WALTER's BIRTHDAY band will return to THE SPIRAL CAFE in Yelm with BARTLETT ON BASS. SCOTT ERCOLIANI is setting this gig up with TAM BORELLI/owner of THE SPIRAL CAFE. It will be posted on the WALTER's BIRTHDAY site by TOD LEMKUHL. Go.HERE T. Jan

OK, OK,.....we're ALL ready for this....The WALTER's BIRTHDAY CD RELEASE PARTY on Friday, August 26th, at THE SPIRAL CAFE ARTS and WELLNESS CENTER in Yelm.

This new CD is awesome and a keeper, it's called just 'WALTER's BIRTHDAY' and that says it ALL....Cool, all music especially written by these very talented musicans.. AND, the CD will be available, of course, at this very special event. So, none of us want to miss this fun night of live music in Yelm. st_robert will be the sound engineer for the night and recording the evening too. So, come early so you won't miss a thing.

It all begins at 8:30 with a special guest performer...to warm us all up and get our dancing feet wet...THEN...at 9 pm,...the WALTER's BIRTHDAY band will begin and perform all of the new CD tunes along with all our favorite WALTER's BIRTHDAY tunes until 12 midnight. There's only a $10.00 cover for this awesome night.

There's some gigs in the works for Olympia...but, haven't heard all the details yet...Just as soon as I hear anything I'll let you all know. OK?
This Friday, Aug. 12th, BARTLETT plans to stop in at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTER's that night....as it is the final night of music there. Sounds like lots of musicians from all over will be dropping by during the night. That's in McKenna, Washington. They're located behind BAYDOS at the McKenna 'Y'. Music is from 8 pm to about 11 pm. Drop in and see what's happening.
BARTLETT's been working hard writing and creating new tunes...I just love to listen. His dream is to record them all...Yea!

WOW! Things are happening...thought, I'd better give everyone a music update...OK?
I did heard more about the gig tonight Friday, March 4th, 8PM at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS called 'The Martin Salinas Band--- 5 piece' from our neighbor STEVE HICKS/drums...he will be playing tonight with MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals...there's some of the mystery 5 pieces...cool.
Steve and I were invited to be Martin's guest tonight too at Liquid Soul Coffee Roasters for this gig. We're so happy to get that invite...Thanks Martin. So tonight, we'll....well, 'probly just Steve, will be dropping by and cheering our hero neighbor friend STEVE HICKS/drums, who helped Steve get our 'new' old truck a few weeks ago AND our cool buddy MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals and the rest of that cool band too at Liquid Soul tonight in McKenna. Then, Steve will head over to the Recording Studio, where recording artist JON BARONI/keys/vocals/harp of WALTERs BIRTHDAY will be finishing up his parts for the band's upcoming CD...st_robert, the recording engineer is saying...it's coming out really cool...can't wait.

Well, here's more 'bout that KIDs MUSICAL WORKSHOP....that Steve and MIKE KARNES/guitar/bass instructor had goin' for tomorrow, March 5th in Port Orchard. Mike called this week, it was decided to postpone that really cool event with the mystery vocalist and all..Bummer....reason?..some technical stuff. Those two secretive, mysterous guys will just let me know more...whenever they want to. Soooo, I'm all-ears, let's say..So, I will post it here...OK?..Cool.

Steve just finished a gig with WALTERs BIRTHDAY last week 2/18, at Liquid Soul Coffee Roaster's in McKenna. It was real cool.

He's gonna teach some bass, with MIKE KARNES doing the guitar instructing next Saturday, that's on March 5th. Those guys haven't givin' me the cost and/or location yet...What the ?? There's gonna be a mystery vocalist too. Hey, I just realized they haven't let me know very much...have they? How am I s'pose to do this anyway? I just gotta know...that's all there is to it.

Steve's meeting with MIKE again tomorrow, then I'll pry it outta him...I promise. It's called THE KIDs MUSICAL WORKSHOP..... OK, and that's about ALL I know for sure. Your friend, Jan

Did ya hear? That really cool band that my Steve's in WALTERs BIRTHDAY is playing again next Friday, February 18th at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERs in McKenna. That's at 8 pm 'til 'round 11. Phone Martin @ 360/400-soul if you need more info about the gig. OK. Only a $5.00 cover.

Guess, EVERYONE had a fantastic time last Friday at Liquid Soul...a big, happy, dancing crowd, and, of course, thanks again to our hero neighbor STEVE HICKS/drums...who helped Steve get our 'new' old truck last week...he came to this gig and Steve said enjoyed himself. Cool.

Well, First, let me thank you for checking for Steve's upcoming events.

He has no gigs booked at this time...well, a gig for next summer in July, in Kent...but, that's a long way off. not really what you're looking for. is it?

So, what's happening?
Steve's waiting to finish up the WALTER's BIRTHDAY band CD. They need to add vocals and harmonies...the last part of the process of creating a CD. Cool. The Keyboard [JON BARONI] and guitar [TOD LEMKUHL] are finishing up their instramental parts now, with st_robert is doing the recording. Drums [SCOTT ERCOLIANI] and bass [My BARTLETT ON BASS, of course. Jan] are finished for now and waiting for the next part.
Last night, 1/12/11, Steve got a call from his old friend, MIKE KARNES, up Gig Harbor way. Mike's organizing a 'workshop' for kids, teaching them guitar etc. Steve will be adding bass guitar instruction and examples for those lucky kids. There will be a drummer, showing his part and a fine vocalist too. Sounds fun. This is in the planning stages, when I know more I'll share.
I'm sure, Steve's getting 'itchy fingers'. He has such a great love for music, people have called him to jam etc. He'll be going out soon to, as he says 'make it happen.'

Yesterday, Wednesday, 11/17th, Steve had a Latte' [cool Steve] at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS in McKenna. Oh yea....Tonight...well, each Thursday night at 6 pm there's AN OPEN MIC at LIQUID SOUL. A great place to meet with your friends and play. AND yesterday, Martin Salinas reminded Steve about LIQUID SOUL's OPEN ELECTRIC JAM this Saturday @ 8 pm. My Steve wants to go and jam. You know folks, I hope he gos ...he deserves it. He takes care of everything around here...cooking, cleaning, animals, laundry, garden, cars, me, etc., etc. He loves music and needs to unwind. I love him. Music makes him happy. So, bring your axe, have a beer, wine or sandwich and jam with my Steve this Saturday at LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERS. That's behind BAYDOS at the McKenna 'Y'. Phone 360/400-soul. Steve doesn't know who else will be there, it's a jam. But, Martin said there's NO COVER. Cool.
